Conditions of membership
The following people are eligible to apply for full membership.
Those who have been successful in membership screening by JALD’s full board or relevant standing committee.
Those who are engaged in scientific research or clinical practice relating to learning disabilities, etc., or in relevant areas of medical treatment or education, with a minimum academic qualification of a degree.
Those deemed to have met the above criteria.
Those who are engaged in fields related to education, medical treatment, or welfare, etc., are qualified speech therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, or early years practitioners, and have graduated from a junior college or technical college, are deemed to have met the above criteria.
In principle, a sponsoring recommendation from an existing full member is required.
- Furthermore, at the time of application, details of the sponsor must be included in the form. It will not be possible to make additions or changes later.
- The sponsor must complete the recommendation procedure via the JALD website’s members’ page before the membership application deadline. If the procedure is not completed by the deadline, membership screening will not be possible. Please obtain the permission of the full member before including their names, as your sponsor, in the application form.
- Applicants without a sponsor should complete the “practice and research history” section of the application form. This will be reviewed during the screening process.
Initial fee and annual membership fee
Individuals supporting JALD’s aims, who are engaged in scientific research, clinical practice, or education relating to learning disabilities, etc.
Full members can participate in JALD’s activities, including research presentations at conferences or conducting symposiums, and publishing articles in JALD’s journal or newsletter.
Initial fee: yen 5,000 Annual membership fee: yen 9,000 (overseas residents: yen 11,000)
Bodies supporting JALD’s aims that have joined as institutions.
People belonging to a body that is an institutional member can participate in conferences, workshops, and symposiums, at the same cost as an individual member. There is no limit on the number of people that can participate on this basis. However, they cannot present research papers as an author.
